Eight people died after a charter aircraft crashed near a remote radar site in western Alaska on Thursday, the U.S. military said. The plane, carrying two pilots and six passengers, was on approach to Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site Airport about 450 miles west of Anchorage. Authorities identified the aircraft as a civilian-contracted vehicle supporting a vital mission in a demanding environment. Military officials said their priority is supporting the victims' families and thanked search and recovery responders.
